My memories, travels, and the landscape around me became the inspiration for the Rock Series paintings. I was drawn to their natural forms. They are the storytellers of history, making visible the affects of time and space.
Nicolai Kusmich, the character in the Rilke story that I mentioned on the Texas Nights' page, felt the disorienting movement of time. I could relate to his fear of spinning out of control from the feeling of rushing time and the movement of the earth. I think the rock series was a way of literally grounding me. I could investigate the effects of time in a calmer way.
