The mystery of matter leads us to confront the basic issue of time’s effect.

… how to contemplate the mystery of our experienced material world?

“Shall I not have intelligence with the earth? Am I not partly leaves and vegetable mould myself?” Henry David Thoreau

When I was a child, on Easter morning, at my grandparent’s farm in Texas, our family would have an Easter service out in the woods. We would make a large circle with rocks and each person would contribute to the service in whatever way they wanted within that circle. It felt primal and real to me. My other granddad, who I loved very much, gave me his beloved rock collection.

Rocks are silent and expressive storytellers of time and space.
